BAGS OF SWEET DIVERSITY - Trish Flutey
Lately, I've been thinking about the diversity of our lives and surroundings. I thought, how sweet and cool everything about our lives, nature, people and the world are.
Next thing I knew, I was drawing the diverse colours and shapes of Licorice All-sorts...the seeds of this collection had germinated.
It's a fun way to wear something that makes a statement, of some kind or another, whether you want it to...or not!
Our world is embroidered and embellished with glorious, sparkling diversity and should be celebrated on a daily basis...maybe with a different handbag!!!
I'm a Whanganui-born textile artist, embroidering and embellishing pre-loved and new fabric and felt that I make into original bags, brooches and hanging pieces.
When a rare health condition worsened, I could no longer hold down a regular job, but I wanted to be occupied. As I had lots of fabric and trims from a lifetime of sewing, I decided to create more artistically-designed bags to sell rather than for my own use.
Currently, the proceeds help pay for my expensive treatment in Auckland which is not funded by the DHB.
